ST. GEORGE, Utah –
Danika Wilson clouted two homers and drove in four and
Hailey Maestretti crafted her second straight shutout as the University of Utah softball team breezed to its seventh straight win, a 7-0 defeat of the Utah Valley Wolverines on Sunday afternoon at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah.
This win streak has pushed Utah's record to 17-5, their best since they were 18-4 in 2022. They've also now twirled four consecutive shutouts, their longest such streak since the 2017 Utes fired five in a row.
The Utes used the long ball to cobble together a first-inning uprising, starting with a
Kennedy Proctor two-run rocket on just the eighth pitch of the game. After a walk and an error put two runners on, Wilson went deep for the first time to up the difference to five runs.
The freshman outfielder circled the bases for the second time in the third, blasting a solo shot that hit off the top of the Karl Brooks Field scoreboard in right. The day's final run came in the seventh, thanks to a
Taylor Jacobs triple, the first of her career, and an RBI single courtesy of
Hailee White.
For Maestretti, it was another superb outing, her third straight start in which she didn't give up an earned run. She faced the minimum in the first, third and fourth and didn't walk a batter. Maestretti allowed only four hits and struck out three over seven innings, boosting her record to 6-1 with a 1.51 ERA.
In 19 1/3 innings across four appearances in St. George, Maestretti didn't give up a single earned run and went 2-0 with one save.
