STARTING BLOCK
The Utes will be sending 22 athletes to compete across three different meets this weekend as they close out the regular season. The bulk of the team will be Seattle, Wash., for the Husky Classic while five will race at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and three return to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Mountain State Games.
Â
Utah will also see its DMR team compete for the first time this indoor season as it looks to run a qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Last year's squad ended up running the sixth-fastest DMR in NCAA history before earning All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The last time Utah competed at the end of January, the Women of Utah made 20 edits to the all-time record books.
Erin Vringer made the biggest splash that weekend, breaking both the 3000m and mile record at Utah with less than 24 hours between each race. The Saint Johns, New Brunswick, Canada, native first broke the 3000m record that was previously held by Simone Plourde – a fellow Canadian – with a run of 8:48.26. She then followed up the very next morning with an electric run in the elite mile race, breaking the 13-year-old record held by Crimson Club Hall of Famer and All-American Amanda Mergaert with a time of 4:32.14.
Â
On the sprints side, sophomore
Chelsea Amoah broke her own record in the 200m dash when she posted a run of 23.39 (aa) at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque, N.M.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah will return to Lubbock, Texas, once again at the end of the month to compete in the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 27-28) inside the Sports Performance Center.
