SALT LAKE CITY – Utah's women's basketball head coach
Gavin Petersen announced the signing of three new Utes to the 2025-26 squad. Utah will be adding Kamryn Mafua and Evelina Otto while welcoming back
Lani White.
"Overall, we are excited about the additions we have made to our program," Petersen said. "In the early period, we went and locked in one of the best recruiting classes in our program since I've been here and positioned ourselves to continue to elevate our program. The additions we've made in the late period compliment our freshman class perfectly. We will have a great mix of experience and youth as we build into next season."
Quick Hits on Utah Women's Basketball's Signing Class
Lani White | 6-0 | Guard | Senior | Irvine, Calif. (Virginia Tech / Utah)
White returns to Utah after spending her junior season at Virginia Tech. While at VT, White started in 31-of-32 games and averaged 9.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures 14 times and scored 20 or more points three times. She shot 49.1% from the field, 50.0% from the three and 83.9% from the free throw line.
White spent the first two years of her collegiate career with the Utes as a fan favorite. She was a part of the 2023 Pac-12 Regular Season Champion team and made two NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the Sweet 16 with the Utes. She shot 39.3% from the field at Utah and averaged 10 minutes per game. She made an appearance in all 34 games in the 2023-24 season.
What Coach Petersen Says About White: "Words cannot express how happy I am for Lani and our fans. She is beloved by so many, and we welcome her back with open arms. She went to Virginia Tech and improved on her game as she gained valuable playing experience in the ACC, where she shot 50% from the three-point line. She knows our system on both offense and defense, so she will not skip a beat as she returns to us this summer. We can't wait for her passion and energy to ignite our program this season."
Kamryn Mafua | 6-1 | Forward | Folsom, Calif. (California)
Mafua will be joining Utah after spending her freshman season at Cal. She made 15 appearances this season and shot 32.1% from the field.
Prior to her time at Cal, she ranked No. 52 nationally by ESPNW in the class of 2024 top 100 rankings. During Mafua's junior season in high school she averaged 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She led the Bulldogs to a Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 Championship. She was named MaxPreps Sac-Joaquin Section Player of the Year in 2023 and named to the California All-State Third Team.
What Coach Petersen Says About Mafua: "We missed out on Kamryn out of high school, so we made sure we got her to Utah this time around. She was ranked in the top 50 of her recruiting class in 2024. Her versatility and mobility at the forward position will be a perfect fit for our program. Her length, strength and athleticism will allow her to make an immediate impact for us in the Big 12. She is a team player and a slam dunk for our culture. She is another transfer that will bring valuable experience coming in from the ACC."
Evalina Otto| 6-2 | Forward | Riga, Latvia (Denver East HS)
??Otto spent her senior year of high school at Denver East High. While there, she averaged 16.6 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. She led Denver East to an undefeated 6A DPS League Championship where she was also named League MVP. She led Denver East to the 6A Elite 8 for the first time since 2009. She was also named a CHSAA All-State Honorable Mention.
Otto was a member of the 2024 Latvian Under 18 European Championship Division A team. She averaged 9.0 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game and 1.0 block per game over the course of seven games. She earned the LSBL Champion title in 2023-24. She played for TTT Riga in the FIBA Eurocup and reached the Top Eight in 2023-24. She was a Biosil WBB Champion in 2023-24 after playing 18 games and averaging 11 points per game throughout those games.
In 2022-23 she was a WBBL Bronze Medalist with RSU where she played in 22 games and averaged 13.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. Otto was also a LSBL Silver Medalist with RSU in 2022-23.
What Coach Petersen Says About Otto:
"Evelina, joins our program having completed her high school senior at Denver East High School. She brings with her international experience as she represents Latvia in FIBA play. Evelina has the skill set to be successful in our system on the perimeter as a post player but also has the physical attributes to defend and score down low on the block. We welcome her playing style and experience at the international level to help us climb in the Big 12."
