BOISE, Idaho –
Hailey Deter and
Emily Capobianco both walloped their second homers of the season, but the University of Utah softball team fell just short in a slugfest against the Boise State Broncos, losing 10-7 on the final day of the Blue Collar Classic at Huber Field in Boise, Idaho.
Utah's 2025 record is 7-17.
The Utes broke the ice in the top of the first thanks to a
Reese Lee single, a sacrifice and an RBI hit through the middle by
Kaylah Nelsen, but the Broncos immediately countered with three of their own in the bottom half.
In the second, Deter pulled the Utes even by lifting two-run homer over the wall in left-center, only for Boise State to respond with a five-run frame for an 8-3 edge.
Despite the deficit, the visitors refused to quit and answered with a Capobianco solo homer in the third and a trio of bases-loaded walks in the fourth that brought Utah to within 8-7. Unfortunately for the Utes, that was as close as they would get. The Broncos bumped their lead back to three with a pair of runs in their half of the fourth and though the Utes brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the sixth and the tying run to the dish in the seventh, they breakthrough they needed didn't occur.
