Utes Head to Orem on Tuesday to Play Utah Valley

LOS ANGELES – The Utah baseball team finished its series with the UCLA Bruins on Sunday with the Bruins taking game three 9-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Utes totaled seven hits in all with Jaylon McLaughlin and Jayden Kiernan both going 2-4 and scoring Utah's two runs.

David Watson took the loss for Utah moving his record to 3-5 on the season.

The Utes got their bats going in the fourth as McLaughlin, Kiernan and Kai Roberts each got singles to start the inning and load the bases. Shea Kramer drew a bases loaded walk for the first run and Brock Rudy hit a fly ball for a sacrifice fly for the second run. The two runs cut into the Bruins five-run lead they built up in the first three innings.

UCLA scored two runs in the first, one run in the second and two more runs in the third to build a 5-0 lead before Utah scored their two runs in the fourth. The Bruins built upon their lead in the later inning to secure the win.

Matthew Sox, Zac McCleve and Brayson Hurdsman each had relief appearances out of the bullpen. McCleve and Hurdsman pitched the final two innings and didn't allow any runs.

Brock Rudy and Chase Fernlund both had hits as well.

Utah's record moves to 8-21 overall and 4-11 in Pac-12 play.

Next up, Utah will play Utah Valley on Tuesday, April 20 at 6 p.m. in Orem, Utah.
