Red-hot Cardinal continue their solid play in limiting Utes on Saturday
Stanford improves to 21-4 (2-0 Pac-12) on the season while Utah falls to 11-12 (0-5 Pac-12).
Catcher Katie Faulk ran her hitting streak to seven games with hits in both games to go 2-5 at the plate for the day, inculding a double and an RBI.
Game 1: Stanford 9, Utah 2
Alyssa Palacios was 2-2 at the plate and Katie Faulk extended her hitting streak to six games with a 1-3 performance. Stanford jumped out early with two runs in the top of the first, and added three more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
Utah scored in the bottom of the fourth on a single to right-center by Katie Faulk to bring home Ellessa Bonstrom, who led off the half inning with a single and advanced on a ground out.
The visiting Cardinal added one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, and two more in the seventh to extend the lead to 9-1. Utah put two on in the seventh and scored on a sac fly by Madi Jacobus to bring home Palacios, but the run was the only one the Utes could muster en route to the 9-2 loss.
Game 2: Stanford 8, Utah 0 (6 inn.)
The hot-hitting Cardinal continued to keep the heat on the host Utes, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the second and extending it to 4-0 after the fourth frame. While ineffective at the plate with just four hits for the game, Utah stayed within striking distance until a four-run eighth inning, aided by a two-out error that allowed one run and subsequent three-run home run.
Haley Denning went 2-3 at the plate and stole her Pac-12-leading 18th base of the season. Mariah Lopez started her second game in a row and took the loss in both games.
A nice diving catch from @ellessabonstrom to end the inning!
