LOS ANGELES - Utah Softball suffered a 9-1 loss to No. 2 UCLA in the second game of their Pac-12 series this evening.
Â
Julia Noskin and
Ellessa Bonstrom both collected a pair of hits and
Hailey Hilburn homered for the Utes. For Hilburn, it was her team-leading seventh of the season and gives her 11 for her career. Hilburn also has a personal best 26 runs batted in this year for Utah.
Â
The game started brightly for the visitors as Noskin singled,
Ally Dickman's bunt was bobbled and Bonstrom reached to load the bases. However, Megan Faraimo induced a pair of ground balls and got the strikeout to end the inning.
Â
Bubba Nickles doubled to begin UCLA's attack and an error on a Briana Perez single led to a little league home run. Last night's starting pitcher, Rachel Garcia, left the yard and Malia Quarles slapped a RBI single to cap a four-run first.
Â
Utah had another chance to get some runs in the second when
Katie Faulk walked and Noskin singled to put a pair on with two down but Faraimo escaped unscathed again
Â
A pair of Bruin walks opened the second and a throwing error brought in another run. After another free pass, Brianna Tautalafua took the first pitch she saw for a two-run single.Â
Â
In the fourth, Colleen Sullivan homered for the second night in a row and Quarles went back-to-back giving the Bruins three blasts on the evening.
Â
Utah had runners on the corners in the fifth and had the chance to continue the game but Faraimo struck out her seventh Ute of the evening to close the contest.
Â
Tomorrow's series finale between Utah and No. 2 UCLA is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT
