Seniors Send Utah Softball to Win at No. 25 Stanford

Hilburn's CG and Dickman's HR get Utes back on track
STANFORD, Calif. - Ally Dickman hit her team-leading seventh homer of the season and that was all Hailey Hilburn needed in the circle as Utah topped No. 25 Stanford this evening in the series opener, 2-1.
Despite Dickman's big blast, the night belonged to Hilburn. The senior allowed just four singles and held the Cardinal batters in check all evening while working her first seven-inning complete game of the season and second of her career (2017 vs. Binghamton) She also picked up a season-high four strikeouts.
With two on and two down in the second, Hilburn got of her first jam by inducing a ground ball to short but in the fourth, the Cardinal finally got the breakthrough.
Montana Dixon worked a full count before taking a leadoff walk and Whitney Burks singled through the left side. After a wild pitch advanced both runners, a Hannah Howell ground out put Stanford on the board. Hilburn limited the damage with another grounder and a pop to short.
Utah's offense could not get into gear but in the top of the sixth, BreOnna Castaneda was hit with a pitch to start the frame. Unfortunately, she was erased on a fielder's choice and replaced on the base paths by Julia Noskin. Dickman followed with her home run that put the Utes on the board and in the lead.
Stanford put a pair on in the seventh with two down but Hilburn got a grounder to second and Noskin was able to turn it into the final out.
The Utes and Cardinal continue their series tomorrow at 4 p.m. MT/3 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks
