Utes blanked for second game in a row
SEATTLE – Gabbie Plain threw the fourth perfect game in Washington history and the No. 1 Huskies beat Utah in five innings, 12-0.
Plain improved to 12-1, while facing the minimum 15 batters, striking out five. It was the first perfect game for UW in 12 years with the last pitcher to accomplish the feat, Danielle Lawrie, calling the game for the Pac-12 Networks.
One day after managing one hit in seven innings, Utah could not muster any in five frames today.
Washington blew the game open in the second as Miranda Viramontes issued a pair of one-out walks before No. 9 hitter Kelly Burdick delivered a RBI single. After two more walks and an error, the Utes trailed 3-0.
Julia DePonte delivered the big hit as she cleared the bases with a double that rolled all the way to the wall in left center. Emma Helm capped the inning with another RBI single for a 7-0 lead.
Taylor Van Zee added a RBI double in the third off Claire Feldman and the Huskies piled on in the fourth. Kajia Gibson smacked a two-run double, Van Zee tacked on another RBI single and a bases loaded walk to Kirstyn Thomas finished the scoring.
The finale is tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
