WEEKLY NOTES: Utah Men's Golf Notes
THIS WEEK
The Utah men's golf team is set to compete in the ninth annual Bandon Dunes Championship, hosted by Gonzaga University this Sunday through Tuesday, March 11-13. The three-day event will be held at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort with action taking place on the Pacific Dunes Course.
THE FIELD
Utah will compete in a field of 14 teams this weekend at the Bandon Dunes Championship. Along with the Utes and tournament host, Gonzaga, the field includes Arizona State, Boise State, Clemson, Denver, Idaho, Oregon, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Southern Utah, UTEP, and Washington State.
THE COURSE
The Bandon Dunes Golf Resort includes four 18-hole courses in the Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, and Old MacDonald courses. The Pacific Dunes Course, which will be played this weekend, was the second course built at the resort and is the highest ranked among the resort's four 18's.
To best utilize ocean frontage, designer Tom Doak came up with an unorthodox routing that includes four par 3's on the back nine. Holes seem to emerge from the landscape rather than being superimposed onto it, with rolling greens and rumpled fairways framed by rugged sand dunes and marvelously grotesque bunkers.
UTAH'S LINE-UP
Utah's line-up this week will consist of: Freshman
Blake Tomlinson, junior
Kyler Dunkle, freshman
Tristan Mandur, sophomore
Jordan Costello, and junior
Nathan Wunderli,

Dustin Pimm, who notched rounds of 64 twice during his career back in 2005 and 2006.

QUOTABLE
"We are excited to compete in the Bandon Dunes Championship," said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We will be playing on the famed Pacific Dunes Golf Course, one of the best golf courses in the world. We are in a great time in the season. Everyone is competing well and playing good golf. Playing golf on a seaside links course with fescue grass is a lot different than competing on courses we typically see across the US. As a group, we need to be able to adapt to the different conditions. It will be an incredible week and we are excited to get to Oregon."
UP NEXT
The Utes will be back in action at Stanford's The Goodwin, which will be held in San Francisco, Calif. The Goodwin will take place over a three-day span, beginning on Thursday, March 29, and concluding on Saturday, March 31.
