BANDON, Ore. – Led by junior
Kyler Dunkle, the Utah men's golf team is in third place following the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship on Sunday, which is being held at the Bandon Dunes Resort in Bandon, Ore.
Dunkle registered a round of 6-under par (65) to help lead the Utes to a first-round score of 5-under par (279). Dunkle sits in a tie for first place following the first day of action on the Pacific Dunes Course, which is a par-71, 6,633-yard course.
"Kyler played a great round of golf," said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "It was a fantastic round of 65 to lead us. After that, we had three guys shoot even or one over and they were really solid. We are pleased where we stand after day one and now we have 36 more holes of golf and anything can happen. All and all, a really good first round performance and now we will see how we do tomorrow."
Ahead of the Utes in the team standings, No. 22-ranked Arizona State leads the 14-team field after shooting 11-under par (273) on Sunday, while No. 15-ranked Clemson is just ahead of Utah in second place after notching 6-under par (278) in the first round. Washington State (-4) and Texas El Paso (-1) rounds out the top-five in fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Nathan Wunderli both carded even par (71) to currently sit in a tie for 21
st place heading into Monday's second round.

Tristan Mandur currently sits in a tie for 33
rd place after registering 1-over par (72) in the first round. Rounding out the Utes on the first day, sophomore
Jordan Costello carded 3-over par (74) to sit in a tie for 48
th place.
