SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Utah men's golf team wrapped up competition at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on Sunday, placing in a tie for fifth place at Desert Mountain's Outlaw Course in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Utah carded 6-over par (294) in the final round of play to finish the two-day event with a combined score of 15-over par (282-303-294=879).
"Overall we played great for stretches and then played really poorly for stretches this week," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "We need to show more consistency throughout our rounds. This is a tournament that we felt like we had a great chance to win, but we needed to execute a lot better. Overall, we hopefully learned a lot this week."
Kansas took home the team title after registering a two-day score of 11-under par (853), which would win by a 21-stroke margin ahead of the second-place finishers Purdue (+10) and tournament host, Michigan (+10). Washington State (+13) finished in fourth place, and St. Mary's (+15) finished in a tie for fifth place with the Utes in the 12-team field.
Freshman
Blake Tomlinson finished in a tie for fourth place with a three-round score of 3-under par, just one stroke behind the tournament's individual champions, to mark the first top-five finish of the freshman's career. Tomlinson (64-75-74=213) carded 2-over par (74) in the final round on Sunday.
"Blake had his best finish of his career," stated Clegg. "He was only one stroke out of tying for medalist. He learned a lot from this week and that is exceptionally valuable for him moving forward."
Freshman

th place. Mandur shot 2-over par (74) in the third round to finish with a combined score of 1-over par (73-70-74=217).
