OXFORD, Miss. - A pair of early home runs was the difference in the game as the Utah baseball team ended its season with a 4-1 loss to Tulane in the NCAA Regional.

Utah ends its season with a 26-29 record after reaching the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2009 and winning its first Pac-12 Championship.

Cody Scaggari, who hit his fifth home run of the year for Utah's only run of the game, went 2-for-4, while Kellen Marruffo was also 2-for-4.

Josh Lapiana threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks. He falls to 4-6 with the loss. Riley Ottesen was strong in relief, allowing one run on two hits with a season-high seven strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Tulane got on the board first after three hits in the fourth inning which included two home runs for a 3-0 lead.

Scaggari doubled with one out in the first inning but was out on a ground out at third. Utah loaded the bases in the fourth after a pair of singles from Marruffo and Andre Jackson while Josh Rose walked, but a ground out ended the inning. The Utes put runners on base in the sixth and eighth innings before Tulane got a double play each time to end the threat.

The Utes got out of several jams, forcing Tulane into leaving two runners on in the fourth and the bases loaded in the fifth.

Tulane increased its lead to 4-0 in the eighth inning after a walk and a pair of hits led to a run.

Scaggari put Utah's lone run on the board in the eighth inning.

The loss ends the careers for seniors Dalton Carroll, Kody Davis, Kellen Marruffo, Cody Scaggari, Nolan Stouder and AJ Young. Carroll, Davis, Scaggari and Young have been four-year starters for the Utes.
