Utah Baseball Loses Early Lead, Falls 9-5 to Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - Despite an early lead, the Utah baseball team fell to 19th-ranked Oregon, 9-5, on Saturday afternoon.
Utah led 5-2 following a three-run fifth inning, but the Ducks came back to score four in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and added several insurance runs in the seventh.
Utah was led at the plate by Cody Scaggari, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Dalton Carroll went 4 2/3 innings on the mound in the start, surrendering six runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in the loss. Josh Tedeschi pitched two innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts while Trenton Stoltz allowed one run on two hits with a strikeout after throwing 1 1/3 innings.
Oregon led off the game with back-to-back hits to score an early run and take a 1-0 lead. The Utes broke through in the fourth for two runs. Andre Jackson led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a throwing error before scoring on a ground out. Later in the inning Scaggari beat out an infield single and would score on an RBI single from AJ Young, putting the Utes up 2-1.
Oregon tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a run scoring on a balk before Utah came back in the top of the fifth to score three runs and take a 5-2 lead. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., Kody Davis and Andre Jackson all singled to start the inning, leading to a run. Another run would score on a ground out while Scaggari added an RBI double to give the Utes the lead.
Oregon came back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on four hits for a 6-5 lead. The Ducks added three insurance runs on four hits in the seventh.
Utah and Oregon play game three of the series on Sunday, March 20, at noon PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
