SALT LAKE CITY - A six-run eighth inning lifted Oregon to an 8-5 win over Utah baseball on Saturday afternoon.
The Utes led 4-2 after seven innings before the Ducks took the lead in the eighth.
Dalton Carroll pitched seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts. Hunter Rodriguez allowed two runs and two walks while Tanner Thomas pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing one hit with one walk.
Biss Larsen went 2-for-2 with three RBI at the plate. Josh Rose and Dallas Carroll also each had two hits.
Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, with a one-out walk leading to a run on an infield single.
Utah got on the board in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a one-out RBI triple from Larsen after Rose walked. Larsen attempted to score on a ground out but was thrown out at home.
A two-out rally helped Utah score two runs in the bottom of the fourth and take a 3-1 lead. Cole Taylor struck out and reached first on a passed ball, which would have been the third out of the inning. Rose followed with a single to right field and Larsen had his second RBI hit of the day, scoring both runners with a double to the gap in left field. Larsen was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.
Oregon cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the top of the seventh. A pair of leadoff singles led to a run scoring on a sacrifice fly.
The Utes increased their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Patrick Flynn hit a double off the wall in right field and scored on an RBI single from Andre Jackson.
Oregon rallied back in the eighth inning with both a bases-loaded triple and a bases-loaded double, scoring six total runs to take an 8-4 lead. The Ducks had five hits in the inning and took advantage of three walks.
The Utes got a run back in the bottom of the eight, after Dallas Carroll doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single from Rose.
A steady rain fell through most of the contest.
Utah and Oregon close out the series on Sunday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m. MT. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
