LOS ANGELES - The Utah baseball team closed out a three-game series against UCLA with an 11-2 loss on Sunday afternoon.

UCLA broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings for the win.

AJ Young led Utah at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, which included his second home run of the season and two doubles. He drove in both of Utah's runs. Dallas Carroll went 2-for-4.

Utah used four pitchers, with Jayson Rose going 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He falls to 1-3 with the loss. Tanner Thomas pitched three scoreless innings with a strikeout while Nolan Stouder and Hunter Rodriguez also made appearances.

Young put Utah on the board in the top of the second inning with a solo home run, but the Bruins came back in the bottom of the inning to score a pair of unearned runs after the leadoff hitter reached base on an error.

The Utes tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. Carroll hit an infield single and scored on Young's double to right center.

UCLA scored four runs in the fourth inning. The Bruins loaded the bases with a walk, single and hit batter before a triple sent three runs home, followed by an RBI double. A pair of two-run home runs in the fifth inning gave UCLA a 10-2 lead. The Bruins had two additional singles and a walk to load the bases before Thomas got a fly out to end the inning.

UCLA added an insurance run in the eighth inning after three-straight one-out singles led to a run on a ground out.

The Utes return home on Tuesday, March 24, to begin an 11-game home stretch with in-state rival BYU at 7:00 p.m. MT.
