OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Utah freshman second baseman Hannah Flippen was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association All-American Second Team, it was announced Wednesday.
Twelve different Utah players have earned 14 All-American honors in school history and Flippen is the first Ute to be recognized since second baseman Jackie Wong earned a second-team nod in 2006.
Flippen was also named to the First All-NFCA Pacific Region, First Team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Freshman Teams after leading the conference with 163 assists from her second base position and was second with six triples. She tied for second in the Pac-12 with 27 double plays turned and tied for third with 68 hits. In the league-only stats, Flippen tied for second with four sacrifice bunts and 15 turned double plays. Against league foes, Flippen turned in a team-high .362 average and was second on the squad with a .393 mark overall.
A member of the NFCA's Freshman of the Year Top 25 Watch List, Flippen was also third on the squad with 17 multi-hit games to go with 33 RBI.
The Bonita, Calif., native went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI against Northwestern (2/8). She was 3-for-4 with two RBI against Long Beach State (2/15) and drove a three-run homer against Seattle (2/15). Flippen followed that with a two-run homer against Hawaii (2/16), a 2-for-3 performance against Ole Miss (3/3), two hits and an RBI versus Utah State (3/3), and two hits at No. 5 Washington (3/14). She went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored the game-winning run against BYU (3/20) and was 3-for-4 with two with doubles and two RBI against No. 3 Oregon (3/22) before going 3-for-3 with an RBI at No. 1 UCLA on Mar. 29. She went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles vs. Cal (5/1) and also had a 6-for-8 day with five RBI during a doubleheader versus Southern Utah (4/22).
