SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team fell 4-3 in 11 innings to BYU on Tuesday evening in Smith's Ballpark.
Utah (9-14) led 3-1 going into the eighth inning, when the Cougars tied the game at 3-3 after a pair of two-out singles led to a two-RBI double.
Utah left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth after a leadoff triple from Wyler Smith and a pair of walks. Both teams left a runner on base in the ninth and went 1-2-3 in the 10th. BYU took the lead in the top of the 11th. With two on and one out, a squeeze play bunt sent the game-winning run across the plate. BYU pitcher Brandon Kinser stymied the Utes in the bottom of the 11th.

Kody Davis reached on an error and made it to second on the overthrow. A wild pitch sent him to third and a bloop single off the bat of Hunt scored Davis. Utah would leave two on the base paths after a walk led to TJ Bennett getting thrown out at home.
After the first inning, Carroll would surrender just two additional hits over five innings. Utah took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Max Schuman walked and scored on Hunter Simmons' single up the middle.
The Utes added an insurance run in the seventh, taking a 3-1 lead. Anderson hit a leadoff triple that hit high off the wall in right field, and beat the throw into third. Hunt hit a fairly shallow fly ball and Anderson took off, and slid around the tag to give the Utes the lead.
