ARLINGTON, Texas - The Utah baseball team closed out its trip to Texas with a 9-3 loss to UT Arlington on Monday afternoon.

Utah led 2-1 in the third inning before UTA took the lead with a three-run third. The Mavericks also scored three runs in the sixth.

Tanner Banks pitched three innings for the Utes, allowing four runs on eight hits with a strikeout. Dylan Drachler threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts while Zach Adams allowed one run on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

UT Arlington scored a run in the first inning with a leadoff walk leading to an RBI double. The Utes took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Hunter Simmons was issued a leadoff walk and Kody Davis hit a bunt single. Both moved over on a sacrifice before Simmons scored on a wild pitch and Davis scored on a ground out.

UTA took the lead for good with a three-run, four-hit third inning. A home run saw the Mavericks increase their lead in the fourth, adding to the lead with a three-run sixth for an 8-2 score.

Utah left eight runners on base throughout the game. The Utes had two on with one out in the sixth but a fly out and strikeout ended the inning. Utah cut into the lead in the eighth inning, with Max Schuman hitting an RBI single after TJ Bennett led off the inning with a walk, but the Utes left two on base.

UT Arlington added a run in the eighth off a pair of singles to put the score at 9-3.

The Utes play their first home games this weekend, starting Pac-12 play against Oregon State with a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 14.
