The University of Utah softball team will conclude its regular season this week with its Mountain West Conference finale, a Deseret First Duel matchup against BYU. Saturday's home game against BYU will start at 1 p.m., and will be televised live on The Mtn. Anne Marie Anderson will have the play-by-play and Teri Goldberg will offer color analysis for the telecast.
Ute Position-by-Position Notebooks
Outfield Notebook: Postseason award candidate Hannah Clements (Poway, Calif.) is tied for second in the MWC with 15 doubles, tied for eighth with two triples, and tied for ninth with five sacrifice bunts. The sophomore left fielder leads the team with a .348 batting average and is second on the squad with eight multi-RBI games. She is also tied for third on the team with 12 multi-hit games.
Kara Foster (Derby, Kan.) has been a very versatile asset for the Utes this season, ranking among the top 10 in the MWC in several categories. She is tied for fourth in stolen bases (12-of-14), tied for third in home runs (11), tied for fifth in total bases (97), sixth in slugging percentage (.651), tied for eighth in triples (2), tied for eighth in runs scored (39) and tied for ninth in RBI (36). Foster is tied with Olson for the team lead with 16 multi-hit games this season and leads the team with nine multi-RBI games. Foster had a team-high 11-game hit streak from April 16 through May 1.
Designated Player Notebook: Joni Cook (Eagle, Idaho) has emerged as one of Utah's top hitters in the second half of this season. She had two hits and three RBI during Thursday's doubleheader at Utah Valley. Cook knocked an RBI through the left side to put Utah up 1-0 in the second game then she came up with her first career home run in the top of the fourth inning. Cook led all full-time Utah starters with a .444 batting average in Utah's three games at UNLV and San Diego State last weekend. Cook had four hits in nine at-bats, including a double and two runs scored. The Eagle, Idaho native also posted a .556 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage.
