FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Utah softball team was defeated by No. 4 Michigan, 15-1 in five innings, Friday during the second day of the Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field.
Utah (11-12) got a 1-for-2 performance at the plate from sophomore third baseman Whitney Holm, who singled back up the middle of the Wolverine defense in the third inning.
All three Utah pitchers appeared in the game. Unfortunately, junior Brittany Parker was charged with the loss and fell to 1-4 this season.
The Utes scored their run in the first inning when Kara Foster drew a leadoff walk then eventually crossed the plate after three wild pitches by the Wolverine pitcher.
Michigan managed to score its 15 runs in their first four team at-bats, including an eight-run fourth inning to put the run-rule into effect.
The Utes continue the Judi Garman Classic with a single game tomorrow against No. 1 Washington tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. A live radio broadcast of the game can be found at http://www.1150kknw.com/.
