SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's tennis head coach Mat Iandolo has announced the signing of five-star recruit Danielle Flores to a National Letter of Intent. Flores, a native of Carlsbad, Calif., is the second player to sign with the Utes this week.
"I have been following Danielle since she was a high school freshman," said Iandolo. "She became one of the best prospects out of the highly competitive southern California region. She has a competitive drive that will serve her well as we compete at the highest level."
Flores, a top-50 ranked recruit, has amassed a singles record of 70-6 while competing for Cathedral Catholic High School before transferring to Santa Fe Christian for her senior year. In 2008-09, she was named the Western League Player of the Year and to the Varsity Invitational Tournament's All-Tournament Team. Last season, Flores was a finalist at the CIF District Individual Championships.
"Utah is the right fit for me because of Coach Iandolo," Flores stated. "My player-coach relationship has always been the most important aspect to me because without a strong relationship, I would not be able to excel in all areas of my tennis. Secondly, I love the team! I knew one player, Lexi Provancha, and I met the rest of the team on my official visit. They are all hard workers and fun, too."
In 2009, Flores was ranked No. 39 in the USTA 16's National Standings and is currently ranked No. 80 in the USTA 18's. She won the G16's and G18's San Diego Juniors Doubles Tournament in back-to-back years ('08 & '09) and the doubles title at the 2009 G18's West Coast Championships. Flores made two appearances at the USTA G16's National Hard Courts, amassing a 12-4 record overall.
