OGDEN, Utah - The Utah baseball team closed out its regular season with a 12 inning contest against San Diego State, falling 10-9.

With Utah (21-27, 8-16 MWC) up 7-4 going into the ninth, San Diego State (37-19, 15-9 MWC) rallied in the top of the inning to tie the game, 7-7, off a two-out, three-run homer by Ryan O'Sullivan.

After both teams went scoreless in the 10th inning, they both left runners on base in the in the 11th. SDSU's Mitch Blackburn led off the inning with a single but was left on first, while Corey Shimada had a double for the Utes in the bottom of the inning and C.J. Cron was intentionally walked, but neither could score.

SDSU broke through in the 12th inning with three runs. Pinch hitter Guy Willeford singled with one out and scored when Erik Castro singled through the right side to break the tie. Blackburn gave the Aztecs two insurance runs with a bases-loaded double for a 10-7 lead.

The Utes rallied in the bottom of the inning. Devin Walker led off the inning with a home run to cut the SDSU lead to two runs. With one out, Rick Cornu doubled to right center, which was followed by a base hit from Michael Beltran. Shimada reached on a fielders choice that scored Cornu and cut the lead to one, 10-9. Tyler Yagi singled and Nick Kuroczko walked to load the bases with two outs before Cron grounded out to end the game.

Utah starter Bryn Card had one of his best performances of the season, allowing one run and four hits over 6.2 innings, including a season-high seven strikeouts. Bennett Askew, who entered in the 12th inning, earned the loss. Greg Krause, Stephen Streich and Robert Chimpky also pitched in the contest. Chimpky only allowed one hit over two innings pitched (the 10th and 11th innings).

Although San Diego State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Pat Colwell's RBI single, the Utes scored runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead. Cron hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to send Yagi home in the fifth and Cooper Blanc scored on an error as Shimada reached base in the fifth. Austin Jones hit a two-run home run in the sixth.

SDSU scored a pair of runs in the seventh off a two-RBI double from Chris Wilson to cut Utah's lead to 4-3 before Jones stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and his liner down the left field line landed just fair to send three runners home, putting the Ute lead back to 7-3.

O'Sullivan hit his first home run of the day in the seventh inning to put the score at 7-4 before his comeback homer in the ninth.

Jones drove in five RBI for the Utes on the day, going 2-for-5. Shimada, Kuroczko, Cornu and Beltran each had two hits.

Following the day's games, the bracket was released for the Mountain West Conference Tournament. Sixth-seeded Utah will face third seed BYU in the first game at 3:00 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday, May 19.
