COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah junior center fielder Kara Foster was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week following a 6-for-11 performance in four games against Colorado State and New Mexico, the conference announced Tuesday.
Foster, a two-time all-conference selection, hit .545 with six hits in 11 at-bats while driving in six runs, including a pair of home runs, and was 1-of-2 on stolen base attempts. Foster connected on 18 home runs and drove in 41 runs this season. She now has 53 career home runs and drove in 129 career runs.
Foster went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader Thursday against Colorado State, including a home run while driving in a pair of runs. The Utes opened the bottom of the first inning Friday against New Mexico by drawing three walks before Foster jolted her 53rd career home run over the left-field fence for a grand slam that gave Utah a 4-0 lead before recording an out.
This is Foster's third career weekly award as she also won the award on April 8, 2008 and March 5, 2007. The Utes took three weekly awards this season as Whitney Holm and Ashley Smuda swept the honors on Feb. 17.
The Utes ended their season 22-31 overall and 4-10 in MWC play.
