SALT LAKE CITY - Senior Corey Shimada hit his second home run of the season to score Utah's only run of the game as the Utes fell to No. 14 TCU, 6-1, Saturday at Franklin Covey Field.
Utah (7-11) came up with five hits on the day. Shimada connected on the first pitch he saw in the top of the ninth.
Andrew Wilding got the start for the Utes and fell to 0-3 on the season while pitching seven innings and allowing seven runs (three earned) with no walks and three strikeouts. Joe Pond, Bennett Askew and Tyler Andersen also saw time on the mound.
Taylor Cragin earned the win for TCU with 7.2 innings pitched, giving up three hits while striking out three and walking one.
Bryan Holaday hit a two-run home run for TCU, while Chris Ellington was 3-for-3 and scored a run.
Utah concludes its three-game series against No. 14 TCU Sunday at Franklin Covey Field. First pitch is set for noon.
