SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah cross country team is coming off of a break, allowing a full two week preparation for the 5-kilometer race this Saturday, hosted by the University of Nevada. The race will take place at Rancho San Rafael Park and is slotted to begin at 10:45 a.m. PT after the men's 8-kilometer race.
The Utes will be joined by Sacramento State, Utah State and Nevada. Both Nevada and Utah State are currently ranked in the Mountain Region, 14th and 15th respectively, and will be giving the Utes a good run for their money.
A Look Back
The Utes were last in action at the Bob Firman Invitational where the team placed fifth, led by freshman Jenny McCune. McCune was the first Ute runner to finish for the third consecutive race, finishing in 19:06.91 and 21st overall.
Two other freshmen anchored in for the top three finishing spots for Utah. Megan Combe was the second Ute to cross the line, finishing in 27th-place (19:21.75), followed by freshman Amanda Mergaert who took 30th overall (19:28.29).
Thoughts from head coach Kyle Kepler
"We are looking forward to racing again after a very good two week training period. UNR and Sacramento State will provide a great challenge. We continue to battle a few minor injures and illness going through the team. However, if we can race to the level we are training at right now I feel we will see some significant improvements throughout the team."
