FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Led by Diana Phillips' 2-for-3 performance at the plate, the Utah softball team closed out the regular season with a 7-1 loss to Colorado State on Saturday, May 10.
With a 10-10 conference record, the Utes will finish the season in third-place.
Utah's (28-27) lone run of the game came in the top of the second inning. Sharee Fonoti walked to lead off the inning, scoring when Staci Hemingway singled up the middle.
The Rams (29-22, 9-11 MWC) broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning to take the lead. CSU also scored three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Julia Kloppe hit two home runs for four RBI to lead the Rams in the game.
Ashley Smuda pitched five innings on the mound, striking out seven. She gets the loss to go to 18-13 on the year. Brittany Parker entered to pitch the final inning.
