FULLERTON, Calif. - The Utah softball team closed out the Judi Garman Classic with a 7-3 loss to No. 18 Washington.
Kristie Keller led the Utes with a 2-for-4 performance on the day, scoring a run. Sharee Fonoti and Kara Foster also had hits.
After the Huskies' Bailey Stenson led off the game with a home run to give Washington a 1-0 lead, the Utes came back in the second to take a 2-1 lead after several illegal pitches from pitcher Caitlin Noble allowed Kara Foster and Devina Quintero to score during the inning.
Washington scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good, which included home runs from Jace Williams and Ashlyn Watson. Utah would score in the bottom of the inning, as Keller scored on a throwing error.
The Huskies also scored a run in the fifth inning and added two runs in the seventh inning.
Brittany Parker went three innings at pitcher. She falls to 6-8 on the year. Ashley Smuda entered the game in the fourth inning and had five strikeouts.
The Utes face off with in-state rival Utah State in Logan on Wednesday, March 26, in their next game.
