AUSTIN, Texas - Despite a 13 strikeout performance from freshman Brittany Parker, the Utah softball team fell to No. 22 Texas, 2-0, in the third-place game of the Texas Classic.
Parker pitched a complete game for the Utes (10-5), giving up six hits and two runs. She goes to 3-2 on the year.
Senior centerfielder Diana Phillips had both of Utah's two hits in the game. Her second hit of the contest was her 12th career triple, which moves her to third on the all-time list at Utah.
Texas (11-6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Tallie Thrasher scored from third off a wild pitch. Thrasher also knocked in the second run of the game with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Longhorn pitcher Meagan Denny had 10 strikeouts in the victory.
Utah returns to the field on Friday, March 7, against Arizona State at the Diamond Devil Invitational, hosted by ASU.
