SALT LAKE CITY -- Both halves of Utah's middle infield were selected in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, held Tuesday and Wednesday. Second baseman Tyler Kmetko was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 37th round Wednesday.
That choice followed Tuesday's 12th-round selection of shortstop Ryan Khoury by the Boston Red Sox.
Kmetko batted .272 with four home runs this past season. He was even more impressive in the field, committing just seven errors in nearly 200 chances. Kmetko's fielding percentage was .964.
The selection of Kmetko push the number of MLB Draft picks with ties to the Utes to four. In Tuesday's first day of the draft, Ute signees Jarrod Freeman of Alta High School and Travis Barnett of Salt Lake Community College were also chosen.
