SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah first baseman Jay Brossman (Pullman, Wash.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 team. Brossman received this honor after voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America, which administers the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program.
Brossman, a junior, has a 3.33 grade-point average and is majoring in exercise and sports science. In addition to his excellence in the classroom, he has been a major contributor on the field for the Utes this season.
Brossman ranks second on the Utah squad with a .347 batting average. His totals of nine home runs and 40 RBIs also rank No. 2 on the squad, as does his .568 slugging percentage.
As a freshman and sophomore, Brossman was a Mountain West Scholar Athlete selection and he should earn that honor again this year. He is a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection as well.
