FULLERTON, Calif. - Arizona State plated its only run in the fourth inning and it was all the Sun Devils needed to top the University of Utah softball team (15-9 overall) in the championship game of the consolation bracket in the Judi Garman Classic.
ASU pitcher Katie Burkhart held Utah to two hits, allowing base knocks to Jackie Wong (1-for-3 in the game) and Devina Quintero (1-for-3).
The Sun Devils got the game's only run in the fourth inning. With Delenah Langley on third, Bridgette Caron laid down a sacrifice bunt to push the game-winning run across the plate.
Meghan Dyer took the loss for the Utes in falling 8-3 on the season. She struck out five and walked three in throwing all six innings. She allowed four hits and one earned run.
The Utes open the home portion of their schedule on Friday, March 24, when they host the Utah Invitational Tournament. First up for the Utes is UVSC with first pitch set for 4:15 p.m.
