LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The University of Utah belted three doubles in the second game of its doubleheader but it couldn't counter Texas-San Antonio's five-home run effort in the 8-0 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Utes (2-2 overall) surrendered home runs in each of the first two innings and quickly fell behind, 7-0. UTSA catcher Jessica Els did the most damage, going yard twice in posting a 3-for-4, four-RBI, two-run effort on the day.
Aimee Murry also had a pair of homers for the Roadrunners in addition to Kim Chavez' long ball.
The Ute offense only tagged UTSA hurler Amanda Nikolenko for five hits on the day. Three of those hits were doubles as Jackie Wong, Staci Hemingway and Hailey Davenport all tallied two-baggers.
Utah had a chance to cut into UTSA's five-run lead in the third. The Utes loaded the bases with no outs but Nikolenko took over. She got Ivette Hernandez and Jessica Shiery to strike out while Devina Quintero grounded out to end the inning.
Sheri Shrock takes the loss as she lasted for only one and one-third innings in giving up three home runs and three earned runs.
Nikolenko tallies the victory for UTSA.
Utah returns to action on Sunday to wrap up its five-game stint at the Hilton Las Cruces Classic. First pitch with Ohio State is set for 9 a.m.
