SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah softball head coach Angie Jacobs has announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters-of-intent this afternoon. This is Jacobs' first class as Utah's head coach.
Joining the Utah softball family for the 2007-08 season are pitcher Brittany Parker (Murray, Utah/Murray HS), infielder Sara Smith (Northridge, Calif./ Los Angeles Baptist HS), and infielder Laura Dahlberg (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus HS).
"I am very excited about this recruiting class, my first here at Utah," remarked Jacobs. "I feel Britt is the best pitcher in the state of Utah. In addition to Britt, I think we added versatility, power and speed with Sara and Laura."
Below is a thumbnail sketch of the three newest Utes:
Brittany Parker
Murray, Utah/Murray HS
Right-handed Pitcher
Coach: Lisa Parker
Jacobs on Parker: "Brittany is a young, but very mature pitcher. We feel that Britt is the best pitcher coming out of Utah this year. She has such a great understanding and command of her pitches. Britt is a real competitor in the circle but can also play the outfield. We look for Britt to develop into an exceptional pitcher in the next few years."

Sara Smith
Northridge, Calif./Los Angeles Baptist HS

Coach: Clarissa Millsap
Jacobs on Smith: "Sara does a great job of handling pitchers and calling her own game. She has such a great feel for the game, which you don't see that much of anymore with catchers coming right out of high school. Sara also can play first base and the outfield. She is a tremendous athlete and we are looking forward to watching her develop into one of the top catchers in the country."

Jacobs on Dahlberg: "Laura is a strong fielder with a gun for an arm. We look for Laura to compete for a starting position at shortstop next year but also for some playing time in the outfield. Laura plays with such a passion for the game, it will be exciting to watch her compete and challenge her teammates here at the U."
