SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah baseball team will present An Evening With Brooks Robinson on Jan. 17 at the Sheraton City Center. The announcement was made today by the Utes' head baseball coach, Bill Kinneberg.
"Brooks Robinson is an icon in baseball," Kinneberg said. "Having Brooks really adds to what we've done with this event the previous two years. I'm extremely excited about meeting him and working with him on this event. I've heard so many good things about him as a person. I grew up watching him play. It will be a thrill for me and the fans to be around him."
An Evening With Brooks Robinson begins at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton City Center with a reception. The dinner and program will start at 7 p.m. Robinson will sign autographs and pose for photos following the program. Once again, there will be an auction as part of the program, with many great baseball-related items up for bid.
Robinson won a record 16 straight Gold Gloves from 1960 through 1975 as the best third baseman in the American League. He was the American League Most Valuable Player in 1964, finished second in the voting in 1966 and third in both 1960 and 1965. He was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the 1966 All Star game and the 1970 World Series. He is one of only 189 men over the 115-year history of the major leagues to have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame - and one of only 16 to have been so honored on the first ballot.
Tickets to An Evening With Brooks Robinson are $100. A table for 10 may be purchased for $1,000. To purchase tickets or obtain more information about the event, please call 801-581-6445.
