Quoting Head Coach Beth Launiere:
On The Season - "Looking at the regular season, to finish with 19 wins and third in the Mountain West, I think it was a big success for us. We experienced ups and downs along the way. However, that's to be expected with such a young team. But, as a whole, the regular season was very successful for us."
On The Tournament - "The Mountain West Conference Tournament is an exciting event. Everyone is playing for the championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAAs. However, we have our work cut out for us and we need to take this one match at a time. Our first match is against Wyoming. They are playing very well right now and played a very tough match against us two weeks ago. It's going to be a tough tournament."
Diggin' Up Some Dirt -The Utes put up 103 digs in the five-game win over UNLV last weekend. The two rivals combined for 207 digs in the match. The 103 digs was by far the most that Utah has posted in a single match this season. The next-best effort was an 83-dig effort in the four-game win over Missouri State (9/10/05). The last time Utah put 100 digs on the stat sheet was in last year's five-game upset victory over No. 6 UCLA (9/17/04).
Four Score and.... -While Utah tallied 103 digs in the win over UNLV, the bulk of the effort came from four different Utes. The foursome of Danielle Leichliter, Shelly Sommerfeldt, Airial Salvo and Shannon Krug accounted for 84 percent of the team's digs that night. A libero, Leichliter tallied a career- and match-high 28, both Sommerfeldt and Salvo had a career-high 20, while Krug had a career-best 19.
20-20 Vision - Shelly Sommerfeldt had a career night in leading Utah to a five-game over UNLV. She tallied 24 kills (on .297 hitting) and 20 digs. Both numbers are career highs for the senior co-captain. It was her fifth 20-kill match this season. She had a pair of 22-kill outings, against Santa Clara (9/17) and New Mexico (9/24), in addition to a 20-kill effort versus both Idaho (9/15) and San Diego State (11/19).
That 70's Show - Setter Shannon Krug dished out a career-high 75 assists in leading Utah to .256 hitting against UNLV. That's an average of 15 assists per game. The 75 assists are the most by an MWC setter this year. She finished the weekend averaging 13.56 assists per game and guiding the team to a .259 hitting percentage. For the year, Krug is averaging 11.59 assists per game while the team is hitting .230. Krug ranks third in the league in assists, and is the second-best freshman setter in the conference.

During that span, she had four matches with seven-plus blocks and averages 1.72 blocks per game. Last weekend, the 6-7 middle had 14 total blocks in two matches and averaged 1.56 blocks per game.

She has upped her season average to a team-best 3.34 per game and ranks sixth in the league.
