LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The Utah softball team dropped its contest 4-3 on Saturday to UNLV. The loss drops Utah to 20-30 overall and 8-11 in the league, while UNLV moves to 24-34 overall adn 6-13 in league play.
Utah scored the first run of the game after Melissa Stahnke was hit by a pitch, moved onto second and then scored on a double to right center by Lynsey Wall. UNLV answered in the latter of the inning with a run of its own to tie it at 1-1.
The Rebels knocked in two more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. The Utes did score two in the top of the seventh to tie things up at three-all. After Lynsey Wall led off the inning with a single and a Ute out, Sarah Lyman would single up the middle. Wall and Lyman would then score on a triple to the gap in left cetner by Jackie Wong.
The bottom of the inning would prove costly for Utah. UNLV's first runner would reach on a single to right center. The next batter would draw a walk and the next would reach on an error to load the bases. Then, Wendy Godwin would single to second to bring in the winning run.
Brianna Gourdin is credited with the loss to drop her to 15-7 on the season. Gourdin did strikeout nine in the loss.
