SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team fell 7-1 to San Diego State in game two of the series at Franklin Covey Field tonight. With the loss, the Utes fall to 21-33 overall and 11-18 in Mountain West Conference play.
Junior Doug Mackay (4-8) suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings. He gave up three runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking seven.
San Diego State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI-double.
Utah tied the game at one apiece with its only run in the bottom of the third when freshman John Welsh, who reached on a double, scored on an error by the Aztec right fielder.
San Diego State scored two more in the top of the fourth on two bases-loaded walks. The Aztecs then added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings before plating the final two in the ninth for the 7-1 win.
Welsh was the only Ute with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 on the night.

The two teams close out the series and regular-season MWC play with a noon game tomorrow, May 22, at Franklin Covey Field.
