SALT LAKE CITY-University of Utah third baseman Melissa Stahnke has been named to the academic all-district VIII team. This is the third time Stahnke has received the honor. She will now advance to the national ballot.
During her four years at Utah, Stahnke has amassed several accolades-both on the field and in the classroom. She ranks as Utah's career home run leader with 49, which is good enough to rank in the NCAA Top 20. She ranks second at Utah in career RBI (161), along with being fifth in career doubles (39). Stahnke also owns four Ute single season records and has a career batting average of .315. She is a three-time all-Mountain West Conference team member, along with being named to the 2002 all-West region team.
In the classroom, Stahnke has been equally impressive. She has a cumulative 3.595 grade-point average as an elementary education major. The Ridgefield, Wash., native is a three-time academic all-conference team member and was named a National Fastpitch Coaches' Association All-American Scholar-Athlete last year.
