ST. GEORGE, Utah-The Utes (0-1) opened up their 2004 campaign with a 4-2 loss to Loyola Marymount at the Southern Utah Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 7. The two teams will meet again on Sunday.
LMU used a three-run third inning to jump out to a lead they would never relinquish. Sami Strinz knocked in a run and grabbed the victory for the Lions.
Utah struggled to get things going offensively and defensively. The Utes knocked five hits, two of which were homers, but failed to bring in the other base runners. In the field, Utah committed four errors.
Senior Heather Bowlin gets the loss for Utah. Bowlin allowed three runs off six hits in 3.0 innings of play.
Glennis Donnelly and Kate Nygaard each homered for Utah, while Devina Quintero had two hits in the game.
