SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Utah baseball team suffered its third straight loss, this time a 12-7 deficit to Gonzaga, at the Coca-Cola Classic this afternoon. The Utes fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

Junior Clay Westmoreland took the loss on the mound, falling to 0-1 on the season. He gave up five runs on four hits. Freshman Eric Schaler got the start, pitching one inning and giving up seven runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Sophomore shortstop Ryan Khoury and senior outfielder Eric Chevalier led Utah offensively, both going 3-for-4 at the plate. Senior first baseman Michael Westfall was the only other Ute with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

Gonzaga got on the board early, quickly taking a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Utes scored in the top of the third when Chevalier knocked a solo homer to right field. Utah plated three more in the fourth, one on a fielding error and the others on a two-RBI double by Chevalier.

After three scoreless innings, Utah tied the game at seven apiece in the top of the eighth when junior Tyson Olson doubled to left center, followed by a one-run single through the left side by Chevalier.

Unfortunately for Utah, the Bulldogs came back in the bottom of the eighth with five runs to take a 12-7 lead. The game was then called due to time constraints, with one out, one runner left on base.
