SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the signing of Corey Shimada (Murray, Utah) to a national letter-of-intent. Shimada is currently a senior at Murray High School.
Shimada, a 5-foot 8-inch, 160-pound infielder/outfielder, was a first-team all-state selection for Murray High as a junior last season. He also earned first-team all-region accolades and served as team captain for the Spartans. Shimada helped lead Murray to a share of the region championship last year.
Kinneberg said he was pleased to add a player the caliber of Shimada to his squad.
"We felt Corey was the best high school position player in the state of Utah," Kinneberg said. "This is a big signing for us. Corey will play a couple roles for us. He is a strong middle infielder and could switch to the outfield with his speed. He'll add an extra dimension to our offensive approach, with his outstanding speed. We're just really excited to have him."
Shimada will be a freshman at the University of Utah next fall.
