LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Utah baseball team fell to 22-30 overall and 9-20 in Mountain West Conference play with an 8-2 loss at No. 15 UNLV tonight. The Utes managed just two runs on seven hits in the loss.
Sophomore Doug Mackay suffered the loss on the mound, falling to 4-6 on the year. He pitched five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, while striking out seven.
UNLV scored in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly, taking a 1-0 lead.
The Utes tied things up in the top of the second on a solo homer by junior Eric Chevalier.
The Rebels added three more in the bottom of the second on a two-RBI double and a one-run single, making it 4-1.
Utah scored in the top of the fifth when Chevalier doubled, then was brought home on a single by junior Cort Wilson, making it 4-2.
UNLV extended its lead with one run in the fifth and three more in the seventh for the 8-2 win.
Chevalier went 2-for-4 on the game with two runs and one RBI, while Wilson was 2-for-4 with one driven in.
