SALT LAKE CITY - It took six different pitchers, but the Utah baseball team defeated Albertson College 10-7 in game two of a doubleheader at Ute Field this afternoon to improve to 12-16 on the season.
Junior Ryan Florence, who started the game, got the win to improve to 1-2 on the season. He pitched three innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He also struck out two.
Juniors Kevin Carver and Ben Buck, and freshman Jason Price each threw one inning before freshman Derek Larsen entered and pitched two innings, striking out three.
Sophomore Brady Martinez then entered in the top of the ninth to seal the win and earn his fifth save of the season. He gave up one hit and struck out two.
The Coyotes scored first in the top of the first on an error, but Utah answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.
The Utes then bat the full rotation plus five in the second inning, scoring five runs on four singles, one double, one error, one walk and two hit batsmen.
Though Albertson cut the Ute lead to 7-2 in the top of the third with an RBI-single, Utah came right back with a run of its own in the bottom of the third to make it 8-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Brett Sundberg hit a one-run homer to put the Utes up by seven, 9-2.
The Coyotes came howling back in the top of the fifth with four runs to cut the Utah lead to three, 9-6.
Junior Jared Pena scored the Utes' last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a Jake Jordison single to center field.
After two scoreless innings, Albertson scored again in the top of the eighth on a one-run single down the left field line bringing the score to 10-7.
In the top of the ninth, Martinez hit a batter, then gave up a base hit. With the tying run at the plate, Martinez made the final out unassisted to seal the win and notch the save.
Senior Wick Udy was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Jordison was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Freshman Matt Anderson, in just his third start, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.

The Utes travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a three-game series against Air Force (10-18, 0-9) this weekend.
