SACRAMENTO, Calif.--The Utes connected for 16 hits to knock in 10 runs as they rolled past Morehead State, 10-1, on Friday afternoon at the Capital Classic. The win bumps the Utes to 9-15 on the year.
In the second inning, with a 2-1 lead, Utah broke open the ballgame with seven runs. Lynsey Wall led off the second with a home run to right and closed the scoring with an RBI single. A couple of base hits in between Wall's success scored more runs for the Utes, including a two-run single to center by Glennis Donnelly.
Donnelly was the run production for Utah, accounting for four RBI in the game. Wall added the two RBI, as did Melissa Stahnke. Jackie Wong scored three runs for UTah and notched two hits. Every person in the starting line up for Utah had at least one hit, including pitcher Brianna Gourdin.
Gourdin threw an outstanding game for Utah. The freshman struck out six and allowed just one run off three hits. It was her first win of the season.
