SAN DIEGO - The University of Utah baseball team fell 13-5 today to San Diego State in the completion of Saturday's contest which was suspended due to rain with the Aztecs leading 10-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Today, San Diego State added a pair of runs in the seventh on RBI singles, then tacked on one more in the eighth on a base hit for the eight-run win.

Sophomore Dan Simonsen took the loss, dropping to 0-1 on the season. He threw 1 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and three runs.

Sophomore Clay Westmoreland started for the Utes, pitching four innings, allowing eight hits and five runs, while striking out three.

Senior Mike Basham was 3-for-4 on the game with two doubles and one RBI. Juniors Mike Westfall and Jared Pena were 2-for-4.

Yesterday, The Aztecs got off to a good start with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI double.

However, the Utes countered with three runs in the third on three RBI by junior Cort Wilson (sacrifice fly), Basham (double) and senior Jake Jordison (sacrifice fly). Utah upped its advantage to 4-2 in the fourth on a solo homer by Westfall.

Playing in light rain, SDSU regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single and a two-run double.

The Utes knotted the score at 5-5 with a run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Khoury.

With the rain starting again, San Diego State rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Landon Burt's RBI double scored a pair of runs, and he scored later in the inning on a balk.

After the Aztecs loaded the bases with two outs, Jordan Swaydan delivered a two-RBI single to right to give the Aztecs a 10-5 lead.
