Utah Quick Hits
The Utes sit four games behind league-winner San Diego State and will decide their own fate for conference seeding this weekend against Air Force. Leading Utah's bat attack is senior Nate Weese. Weese ranks first on the team with 75 hits, 15 home runs (t-1st MWC) and 55 RBI. Mitch Maio, a senior, guides the pitching staff with a league-high nine wins and a 3.67 ERA.
Utah vs. Air Force
Utah is half a game up on Air Force in the league standings. The Utes won their first conference series sweep of the season against the Falcons the last time the two played. Utah used an eight-run rally in the eighth en route to winning game one, 11-8. The Utes won game two with a 10-3 score. In game three, Utah posted 10 runs in the eighth to roll past the Falcons, 15-4.
Scouting The Falcons
Air Force has comprised a 26-24 overall and a 13-13 league record this season. The Falcons, who were picked to finish last in the pre-season poll, are tied for third place in the league standings. Air Force has proven to be a better team at home this year, boasting a 16-3 record at Falcon Field versus an 8-17 road record. Bowie Frost has a team high .387 batting average, while Josh Phifer has knocked in a team-leading 66 runs. Matt Kaercher has a 7-8 record and Johnny Koegel has a 6-5 record to lead the mound staff.
Last Week
The Utes gave up 19 runs to Brigham Young in game one's loss (19-4), but came back to score 19 of their own to win game two, 19-6. Game three saw the two team's knock out a season league-high tying seven home runs. Utah proved to have more offense that day, winning by an 11-6 margin.
Who's Hot
Matt Ciaramella went 10-of-14 (.714) against the Cougars last week. The freshman had two doubles, a triple, a stolen base and four RBI. He also crossed the plate eight times.
Nate Weese batted .500 during the BYU series. He had two home runs, a triple and a sac fly to help drive in seven runs with two stolen bases.
Take Note
Utah boasts a 3.49 ERA and .340 batting average in its 30 wins, versus a 9.38 ERA and .302 batting average in its 23 losses. Brit Pannier has a team-high nine-game hitting streak heading into the Air Force series.

Nate Weese broke the Utah career record for home runs with his 47th shot against BYU on Sat., and added to it with another one later in the game. Brit Pannier is the new Ute career doubles leader with 58. Pannier also tied the single-season doubles record with his 24th on Sat.

The Utes travel south to Provo, Utah for the Mountain West Conference Championships, May 22-25. The all-conference team will be announced at the Pre-Championship banquet on May 21.
