SALT LAKE CITY--Utah outfielder Matt Ciaramella was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on May 13. The freshman went 10-of-14 (.714) with eight runs scored and a perfect fielding percentage in 10 chances last week, to help the Utes take two-of-three from Brigham Young.
Ciaramella was 3-of-4 with two runs scored and a walk in the Utes' game one loss. In the second inning, he capped off a Utah triple play by snagging a BYU line drive and then throwing to second to double off the runner. Game two featured his best performance of the season. The Salt Lake native was 5-of-5 at the plate with two doubles, five runs scored and three RBI. He finished the series with a 2-of-5 effort in game three, including a triple and an RBI double.
On the season, the freshman is batting .332 (.383 league games) with a glossy .981 fielding percentage. Ciaramella joins teammates Brit Pannier, Mitch Maio and Cheyenne Rushton as Utes honored by the league this season.
