SALT LAKE CITY - Utah catcher Chris Shelton was named to the Louisville Slugger TPX All-America Team announced on Friday. The junior made the second team after leading the Utes with a .374 batting average, 19 home runs, 66 RBI and 22 doubles. He also scored 53 runs.
The Salt Lake City native was also named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year last week, ranking first the league with a .753 slugging percentage. In his first season with the Utes after transferring from Salt Lake Community College, he helped lead Utah to a 27-29 overall record and a tie for third place in the Mountain West Conference with a 14-16 mark.
