PROVO, Utah-Brigham Young evened it's Mountain West Conference series against Utah after scoring nine runs off 13 hits Friday, April 20 at Miller Park. Kainoa Obrey posted three RBI's to lead BYU and Michael Davies and Doug Jackson drove in two apiece for the Cougars.
Utah trailed going into the second inning, but tied the game at 1-1 after Sam Swenson scored on a single by Mike Westfall. BYU broke the tie by scoring five runs off three hits in the bottom of the third inning to lead 6-1.
Utah chipped away at the BYU lead by scoring two runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-3. BYU led 7-4 after five innings of play. In the bottom of the sixth, Jon Lewis threw two wild pitches allowing BYU to score two runs and lead the Utes 9-4. The Utes scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning off RBI's by Donnie Saba and Adam Castleton, but it wasn't enough for the Utes losing 9-6.
Brit Pannier drove in two runs and Sam Swenson went three for five from the plate to the lead the Utes. Jeff Mousser picks up the win for BYU and Jason Wylie earns the loss for Utah. Wylie allowed five hits and six runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Utah moves to 20-21, 9-11 MWC and BYU moves to 26-16, 14-6 MWC. The series concludes tomorrow at Miller Park.
